DVD Region 2. Robert Kemp's celebrated Scots version of Moliere's "L'Avare'' ---- The Miser -- is set in the Laird o' Grippy's house in Edinburgh's Canongate in the middle of the eighteenth century. The part of the laird was originally created for Duncan Macrae, while Rikki Fulton was a memorable Grippy on television. There are many twists to the fast-moving plot, which deals with the efforts of Grippy's son and daughter to outwit their miserly father, marry for love -- and escape with his money too.
The play was produced for BBC Television in 1979 by Pharic McLaren and directed by Donald MacWhinnie.
