Synopsis

DVD Region 2 PAL. BBC Scotland's Tales of Para Handy from the stories by Neil Munro starring Roddy McMillan. These colour episodes of The Vital Spark on this DVD are the only four surviving from the 1973-74 Tales of Para Handy series. None of the first series starring Duncan Macrae from 1959 and only one starring Roddy McMillan, A Drop o' the Real Stuff, in the 1960s remain in the archives.

However, these four hilarious stories from 1973 and 1974, filmed in colour around Glasgow and the Clyde, display the best of Scottish writing, humour and comedy acting.

As well as the four regulars, we have guest stars Fulton Mackay in The Wedding, Phil McCall in A Drop o' the Real Stuff, Russell Hunter in The Quarrel and Joseph Brady in Bad Luck Cargo.

Pour yourself A Drop o' the Real Stuff, sit back and embark on a voyage of laughter with The Vital Spark!

Excellent, Excellent, I have watched the CD twice and laughed both viewings
Great pity there was not more episodes I could watch.
The original casting was brilliant and the acting was superb, probably on a shoestring budget but because the casting, acting scenery etc were also brilliant it is timeless
Thank you for bringing back many happy memories, the writing and adaption to tv was superb
The second series was good but not quite as good as original
